Is WeGovy Available in the UK? – Wegovy contains Semaglutide, Semaglutide was originally approved for use in type 2 diabetes; however it has been widely used to regulate appetite in overweight and obese patients. The licensing of wegovy means that, doctors will no longer need to prescribe Ozempic for weight loss, off-label.
The supply of wegovy is currently at the shortage around the world, due to its effect on weight loss, however in the UK we are due to have this available from wholesaler later this year or early next year. Unfortunaltely the delay has been caused by shortages in the US which has affected the launch in other parts of the world.
Wegovy works by mimicking a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. The medication dose must be increased gradually over 16 to 20 weeks to 2.4 mg once weekly to reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
